Producing and marketing oil and gas
At Kazneft Petroleum we extract, process and export oil and gas through three different processing units and via a similar number of export routes. This allows Kazneft Petroleum to be flexible and adjust to changes in gas and oil export market conditions.
The Venture utilises leading, and in some cases, pioneering technology in developing the field. For example, the company is home to an innovative high pressure sour gas injection scheme. This injection scheme has proven to be very successful in enhancing hydrocarbon recovery and has harnessed significant value for the Republic. Kazneft Petroleum has also drilled some of the deepest and most complicated wells in Kazakhstan, among which is the deepest multilateral well.
Kazneft Petroleum operates oil fields in several regions of Kazakhstan. The company is committed to ensuring production volumes which allows it to maintain a balance between economic efficieny and rational use of mineral resources.
The Company maintains the production levels at mature fields and actively develops hard-to-recover reserves. At the same time, developing promising fields creating new centers of oil production.
When conducting exploration, the company pays considearble attention to the use of new technologies and equipment, and support of operations by research and development institutes as well as design institutes which makes it possible to increase its efficiency.
The Company's upstream strategic goal include the following
- Increased oil production in the fileds due to the introduction of new technologies;
- The implementation of a geological exploration program including the development of gas projects;
- The production and maintenance of production at existing fields at 30.5 million tons per year;
- Control of costs for controlled costs per unit of output;
- Creation of a large production center in a new key region.
Initially, all production was sold into Russia, but since June 2004 most liquids are exported to western markets, currently around 80 per cent as crude oil. The remaining volumes like unstabilised condensate and raw gas continue to flow to Russia while some unstabilised condensate and all dry gas volumes are sold domestically.
